Product Overview
The AIRKO fixed-speed air-cooled modular heat pump chiller uses water as the energy-transfer medium and outdoor air as the cooling and heating source. When connected to fan coil units, air handling units or packaged air-treatment equipment, it forms a complete hydronic air-conditioning system for summer cooling and winter heating.
The unit combines R410A refrigerant, reliable hermetic scroll compressors, high-efficiency heat exchangers and precision electronic expansion-valve control. It is designed for efficient operation, broad climate adaptability and stable leaving-water temperature.
Two base modules are available: 65 kW and 130 kW. Up to 16 modules can be connected in parallel, creating a flexible total system capacity from 65 kW to 2,080 kW. This modular approach supports phased investment, future expansion, part-load efficiency and easier maintenance.

Applications and System Benefits
|
|
| Transportation Hubs and Large Public Buildings | Commercial Complexes and High-End Interiors |
The chiller is suitable for new-build and retrofit projects where installation convenience, low noise, dependable winter heating and flexible capacity expansion are important. Because the system rejects or absorbs heat directly through outdoor air, no cooling tower is required.
· Hotels, restaurants and serviced apartments
· Office buildings and commercial complexes
· Shopping centers, supermarkets and theaters
· Hospitals, schools and laboratories
· Factories, workshops and industrial facilities
· Airports, railway stations and transportation hubs
Hydronic Comfort: Water-based air conditioning provides gentle airflow, large air volume and more uniform indoor temperature. Compared with many direct-expansion systems, it can reduce excessive dehumidification and improve comfort in occupied spaces.
Overall Design and Operating Range
| Practical Cabinet and Service Design The cabinet integrates a central partition and independent heat-exchanger arrangement for smoother capacity regulation and improved system reliability.
Ergonomic access panels, high-strength structural columns, reserved forklift pockets and lifting holes simplify transport, installation and maintenance.
· Fully enclosed cabinet and optimized airflow for lower sound levels
· 900 mm large-diameter fan wheel
· Taller cabinet design to reduce floor-space demand
|
High-Efficiency Core Components
| Hermetic Scroll Compressor The hermetic scroll compressor uses a floating scroll seal to reduce friction, resistance and wear. A low-pressure chamber improves motor cooling, while a high suction inlet helps reduce liquid-slugging risk.
A discharge check valve helps prevent refrigerant backflow. Integrated motor protection supports overheat, overload, phase-loss and reverse-phase protection.
· High reliability under changing temperature and pressure conditions
· Low vibration and low operating sound
· Long service life and stable performance
|
Energy-Efficient Operation The 65 kW and 130 kW modules achieve nominal cooling COP values of 3.33 and 3.32 respectively. The brochure compares these figures with conventional modular units rated at 3.19.
The stated IPLV(C) is 3.90 for the 65 kW model and 3.95 for the 130 kW model.

High-Efficiency Heat Exchange System
|
|
| U-Shaped Air-Side Heat Exchanger | Shell-and-Tube Water-Side Heat Exchanger |
Air-Side Heat Exchanger: CFD simulation is used to optimize copper-tube spacing, fin geometry and airflow distribution. Internally grooved copper tubes and hydrophilic fins improve heat transfer, support efficient cooling and help produce cleaner defrosting during winter operation.
Water-Side Heat Exchanger: A helical-baffle shell-and-tube design promotes fuller heat exchange. According to the source brochure, heat-transfer efficiency is more than 15% higher than a conventional shell-and-tube design. Curved water flow reduces dead zones and helps limit scale accumulation.
The source brochure states that the complete heat-exchanger system improves heat-transfer efficiency by approximately 12% compared with the previous generation.
Large Fan and Precision Refrigerant Control
|
|
| 900 mm Large-Diameter Axial Fan | CFD-Optimized Fan Blade |
The 900 mm fan wheel increases circulating air volume. CFD optimization improves airflow organization, reduces recirculation and lowers aerodynamic noise. The external-rotor motor is designed for high efficiency, low heat generation, stable operation and long service life.

500-step electronic expansion-valve control
The electronic expansion valve regulates refrigerant flow accurately under changing ambient and water-temperature conditions. It provides a broad adjustment range, fast response and high control precision to maintain stable system operation.
Intelligent Variable-Cycle Defrost
High-precision sensors monitor operating conditions and frost formation. The controller changes the defrost interval and defrost duration according to actual humidity and frost conditions, helping reduce water-temperature fluctuation and maintain more stable heating output.
High Humidity Prompt defrost when frost forms quickly
| Low Humidity Longer intervals and fewer unnecessary cycles
| Circuit Rotation Circuit A and Circuit B defrost alternately
|
Module Rotation Parallel modules defrost in stages
| Stable Heating Other circuits continue operating
| Lower Fluctuation Reduced leaving-water temperature variation
|

Modular Design and Compact Footprint

Base modules of 65 kW and 130 kW can be combined freely. Up to 16 units can be connected in parallel, providing a total system capacity range from 65 kW to 2,080 kW.
The U-shaped heat exchanger and taller cabinet reduce the required ground area. For the 130 kW module, the source brochure states that the single-module footprint is approximately 29% smaller than a conventional modular chiller design.
Rotation, Backup and Capacity Adjustment
| Balanced Operating Hours and Backup Operation At part load, the controller prioritizes the circuit or module with the longest accumulated off-time. Operating hours are distributed more evenly, helping extend the service life of the overall system.
The dual-system, multi-module arrangement provides backup operation. If one circuit or one module faults, the remaining circuits and modules can continue operating.
|
Intelligent Control and System Linkage
| Centralized Multi-Module Control One wired controller can manage 1 to 16 parallel modules and display real-time operating status. The microprocessor performs automatic control, monitoring, fault diagnosis and coordinated capacity adjustment.
· Automatic restart and operating-state memory after power failure
· Timer-based start and stop functions
· User, Service and Factory password levels
· Water-pump, dry-contact and auxiliary heat-source linkage
